Smart Manufacturing Direction Guidance
and Maturity Evaluation

1. Direction guidance

In recent years, there are two similar but slightly different areas of manufacturing production optimization, namely German style Smart Manufacturing and American style industrial Internet. The former is dominated by engineering and the latter by software.

  • Smart manufacturing maturity assessment: Based on German industry 4.0 (China also involves industry 2.0 and industry 3.0, because many companies think they are, or claim to be, industry 4.0); Mainly engineering guidance.
  • Industrial Internet maturity assessment: Based on the industrial Internet of the United States; Mainly software led.

The planning of Smart Manufacturing is mainly to help enterprises move towards German Smart Manufacturing or American industrial Internet; The two directions are similar but slightly different. The choice of direction depends on the business field of the enterprise and the maturity of relevant technologies in the industry. It is necessary to make a detailed diagnosis and decision on the business status of the enterprise and the technological development of the industry.

Industry 4.0 is important, but it is not always industry 4.0 that matters. Basic automation (machine generation, belonging to industry 2.0) and digitization (industry 3.0) are very important, but it is difficult to determine whether they all belong to Smart Manufacturing (at the level of industry 4.0). Where does intelligence come from? Accurate prediction from the model. Specific factories need to develop mechanization, basic automation and digital technology.

The team will choose an appropriate development path for the enterprise according to the current technical status of customers: it can not only make the enterprise continuously improve, but also not make the enterprise too stressful or even dangerous to survive!

2. Smart Manufacturing maturity assessment

If the enterprise only has a very low score of Smart Manufacturing / industrial Internet, it should do things according to its own ability, especially for enterprises that still have survival risk; Of course, if we can choose the appropriate direction (the above-mentioned Smart Manufacturing leading or industrial Internet leading), especially the appropriate system / technology, we can benefit enterprises a lot.

To engage in real Smart Manufacturing in China, four conditions need to be met at the same time. Each enterprise can choose according to its own conditions, and may not necessarily reach the fourth level (Industrial 4.0 Technology). These four conditions are:

(1) Mechanical equipment can be adjusted automatically, not only by manual operation;

(2) Be able to collect data, preferably accurately; Data island and instrument deviation are too large, which are not good. Different manufacturing enterprises should collect different data and customize analysis; In many enterprises, some data can be collected and some are difficult to collect. At this time, it is necessary to have a considerable understanding of engineering problems and judge from the balance of expenditure and income.

(3) Intelligent system development, which is the most high-end technology and industrial 4.0 level development; If the enterprise does not meet the requirements of this level, the team will provide alternative solutions; If it is to build an intelligent production line, this link must not be missed, and our team will also develop corresponding schemes.

(4) Integration between mechanical equipment, basic automation system, MES and ERP systems.

It is necessary to conduct accurate research on the enterprise to see which stage the score can reach, so as to judge which technology upgrading can be done and which can be done only when the technology is more mature in the future; Even if the data is not collected temporarily, space should be reserved instead of developing a version when the conditions are ripe in the future, resulting in great waste! In addition to the on-site specialized mechanical systems, our team has designed data that cannot be omitted at the level of basic automation, intelligent system, MES and ERP (which can be understood as level 1, 2, 3 and 4 computer control). There are 30-50 data in each stage, which are compared by enterprises. Of course, these also need to take into account the local government support policies, because it involves the affordability of enterprises.

This design assumes that Chinese enterprises can lead the Smart Manufacturing of the same industry when they score 100 points, which is ideal. According to this standard, the current situation of large European and American companies exceeds this score. Chinese enterprises are not recommended to spend energy on Smart Manufacturing at this production level when it is less than 60 minutes. They must make efforts within their capacity in mechanization, basic automation and digitization.

For enterprises with low current level but committed to optimization in all aspects, they can gradually realize automation under the guidance of experts from their own team without causing harm to themselves. The most typical example of causing harm is that some enterprises have built intelligent production lines with hundreds of millions of loans. Because they don't know what Smart Manufacturing is, they lose part of the intelligent system and run poorly, resulting in the collapse and death of the whole enterprise!

3. Evaluation of various capability areas of Smart Manufacturing

There are 30-50 business areas (according to different types of enterprises). Each business area needs to be specially evaluated, and then the comprehensive score of the enterprise in Smart Manufacturing is obtained. These business areas involve a series of sections from product design, raw material procurement, planning and scheduling, production optimization, product quality, warehousing and logistics to after-sales service. Different production fields have different sections, which requires a deep understanding of the manufacturing industry. Then the proportion is determined according to the importance of each manufacturing section in different enterprises.

The team has completed more than 200 Smart Manufacturing projects in Germany, the United States, South Korea and China, most of which are completed in the United States. The team has the technical advantages of German doctor of engineering and American doctor of software, and has the advantages of 30 years in the manufacturing field. In particular, it has at least 3 years of working experience in seven or eight important fields, has a deep understanding of the importance of each section, and can deal with the above problems perfectly.

As the intellectualization and digitization of manufacturing industry are still in the early stage, the cases of domestic enterprises in this field are limited; At least, our team does not have the technical problem of "crossing the river by feeling the stone" of many technological transformation enterprises.
