Introduction: This book is intended to discuss the possibility to apply FEM simulation technique to Modern shape rolling practice. Information on local material flow is vital for shape rolling to improve homogeneity of microstructure, to reduce roll wear, etc. In this point, FEM is a powerful and economical way to provide metal flow information. FEM is also an effective way to predict rolled section geometry, load and power requirement, etc. Chapter 1 provides a short introduction. Chapter 2 mainly discusses metal flow, especially local metal flow involved in shape rolling, with example of three typical shape rolling processes. Chapter 3 studies current progress in the FEM simulation in shape rolling. Chapter 4 - 10 deal with the capability of the FEM in predicting various forming parameters, development of FEM technique in this area. Predicted results, including local metal flow, are validated by measurement in rolling test. Several shape rolling processes were analyzed. A useful simplified FEM model was introduced.
