Mill Diagnosis System (MDS)
The Mill Diagnosis System is designed to remotely diagnose
steel mill Level 2 model performance, to identify potential
weaknesses and to
suggest
improvement measures. The diagnosis is mainly based on the
followings:
- Expert System
we have built based on the rolling mill practices in the
well-operated mills, primarily those in USA, in addition to
a variety of mill process data, model coefficients, and so
on.
- Our
full-range of rolling process models we established in the
past 18 years based on rich testing data in Germany (15
years of rolling tests) and USA (5 year rolling tests plus
various mill tests).
- Our experience of the
rolling mill consulting in the past 30 years together with
the experience of the steel Level 2 development in the past
10 years.
- Various tools we use for
diagnosis on the steel mill Level 2 systems in our past
consulting services.
Examples for the MDS to examine
are whether
- your mill is operated with
too many passes;
- your rolled steel properties
has room for improvement;
- the error of your roll separating force
prediction
can be reduced compared with our model results
(about 5% error or lower); if yes, the system would provide
further analysis for sources of error by analyze your error
pattern;
- etc.
Examples of the contents in the
expert system:
- preferred processing
parameters (temperature, draft, hold, cooling rate, etc.)
for selected steel grades;
- existing data collected on
the rolled steel properties in various processing procedures
for various steels;
- related data in the expert
system we proposed for developing the new Level 2 system;
- model coefficients used for
diagnosis and for the solution proposal;
- etc.
The system would perform
various live operations to achieve the goals. The diagnoses
could mainly be done remotely.
The system is also designed
for the purpose of saving the travels of the consultants from
country to country, or from city to city. In addition, integration
with a great number of the high quality rolling process models
would also make the consultants' work much easier, more
efficient and with higher quality.
